For easier handling our files are zipped or compressed. The result is a smaller file that
downloads faster. If you haven't used zipped files before, or are having trouble working with
them, these tips should help you.
ZIP files are just containers which hold compressed versions of the actual file(s) you're after.
The easiest way to open a ZIP file is to just double-click on it and let your computer show you
the folders and files contained inside.
Click the “Download File” button. This will initiate a download automatically
(depending on the operating system you are using) to a preselected folder (usually “Downloads”).
Alternatively you can right click on your mouse. Here are some things you can do, depending on
the type of file you're downloading:
-
Save the file on your PC in the default download location. After Internet Explorer runs a
security scan and finishes downloading the file, you can choose to open the file, the folder
it's stored in, or view it in Download Manager.
-
Save as a different file name, type, or download location on your PC.
If you didn't change your default download location, then the browser downloads files
to the following locations:
-
Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: \Users\<username>\Downloads
-
Mac: /Users/<username>/Downloads
Adjust your download settings: To change the default download location, click Change and
select where you'd like your files to be saved. If you'd rather choose a specific location
for each download, select the "Ask where to save each file before downloading" checkbox.
